ABOUT MANUSCRIPT :Khuffi Alayi was written by Jurjani after his first great Persian medical encyclopedia, Zakhira Khwarazm Shahi. The book was named Khuffi Alayi because it was dedicated to Alāuddīn Atsiz Alayi, the young prince of the Khwarazmian dynasty (d. 1156).Contents:The Khuffi Alayi is divided into two parts (Bakhsh) so that physicians could place each part in one of their boots while traveling by horse, making this book a prototype of a pocketbook.- First Bakhsh: This part is about theoretical medicine and is divided into two Maqala (articles). The first Maqala contains sixteen chapters, and the second contains seven chapters. - Second Bakhsh: This part is about practicing medicine and includes seven Maqala (articles), each with many chapters. It covers the aetiology of diseases, treatment, and personal hygiene.Jurjani, in the introduction of this book, stated that the contents would be the essential practical emergency topics. He wrote that medical knowledge could be divided into two parts: thl knowledge and practical knowledge. Practical knowledge is further divided into branches, with personal hygiene being the most fundamental. He emphasized that another important task of the physician is to predict and identify diseases (prognosis), diagnose the patient's condition and course of the disease, and determine the patient's life expectancy. Theoretical science, according to Jurjani, must be evidence-based and helps distinguish the normalities and abnormalities of the patient. When someone is sick, the physician should start the medical procedures for treatment, including prescribing directives and regulating nutrition until proper cure is achieved.
