| ABOUT MANUSCRIPT : | Kitab fi Firaq al-Tibb is one of the 16 books of Jawāmi al-Iskandaranīyīn,originally written in Greek by Galen, it was translated into Arabic by Hunayn ibn Ishaq, `Isa ibn Yahya, and Iṣṭifan ibn Baṣīl. In the sixth century, medical scholars in Alexandria considered Galen's sixteen works the core texts for medical study. This manuscript is a summary of sixteen books by Galen, compiled around 600 CE at the medical school of Alexandria. In this treatise, Galen (129-201 CE) provides a detailed analysis of three medical schools of thought: the followers of experience, the followers of reasoning, and the followers of tricks. He examines the disagreements among the leading figures of these schools and their differing views on diseases and treatments. Galen was particularly critical of the followers of tricks and authored several writings against them. The treatise delves into the arguments presented by proponents of each school to support their claims and the counterarguments from their opponents. It discusses the refutation and validation of these claims and outlines methods for reaching a final verdict.
