| ABOUT MANUSCRIPT : | The Persian text of Qarabadin Masumi edited by Ashfaque Ahmad, was published in 2013 by the TS Government Oriental Manuscripts Library and Research Institute (TSGOMLRI) in Hyderabad. Following this, its Urdu and Hindi translations were published by the National Manuscript Mission in New Delhi in 2019. An English translation of the work was subsequently published by the National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage (NIIMH) in Hyderabad.F. About the manuscript:Qarabadin Masumi is a detailed compendium of Unani medicine, structured with one Muqaddama (Preamble), seven Maqalas (Discourses), and a Khatima (Conclusion). The Muqaddama itself is composed of twelve Faidah (Benefits), each addressing critical aspects of Unani pharmacology:1. Faidah 1: Discusses the necessity of compound drugs and the methods for their formulation.2. Faidah 2: Focuses on the purification processes for mineral stones.3. Faidah 3: Covers the procedures for burning and calcining minerals, stones, and metals, as well e roasting of various seeds and Scammony (a plant resin).4. Faidah 4: Explores the purification of metals.5. Faidah 5: Describes the dissolution of gold and the purification of mercury.6. Faidah 6: Details the extraction of honey from Baladur (Semicarpus anacardium) and the collection of smoke from Kundur (a type of incense).7. Faidah 7: Provides knowledge about substitute drugs.8. Faidah 8: Discusses the measurements and quantities of drugs.9. Faidah 9: Offers commentary on Unani texts originally written in Arabic.10.Faidah 10: Addresses the emergency use of drugs and the duration of their efficacy.11. Faidah 11: Delves into the exploration and application of Tiryaq Faruq, a renowned antidote.12. Faidah 12: Explains the temperament of compound drugs and their effects.This manuscript serves as an extensive guide to the principles and practices of Unani medicine, providing in-depth insights into the preparation, purification, and application of medicinal compounds. | ||
