ABOUT MANUSCRIPT :Risala Tahrim al-Dafan is a manuscript originally authored by Galen and later translated into Arabic by Ḥunayn. This work addresses the critical issue of mistaken death diagnoses, where patients might be wrongly buried due to a misconception of their death. The manuscript emphasizes the importance of identifying signs that indicate a patient is still alive and stresses that burial should not occur until death is confirmed. It details various signs and symptoms that may suggest life persists before the actual moment of death. The first chapter discusses diseases of the brain and unconsciousness, while the second chapter focuses on cardiac pain. The third chapter covers the effects of intense emotions, such as sorrow or happiness, which can mimic death-like symptoms. The fourth chapter addresses fatal medicines, poisonings, and insect bites, like scorpion stings, which can produce symptoms resembling death. Galen advises that burials should never be rushed under such circumstances.
