ABOUT MANUSCRIPT :Tohfa alMu'minin is a comprehensive pharmacopeia of simple and compound medicines, renowned for its detailed account of materia medica, based on various standard Arabic and Indian medical sources. The work is divided into two parts: Part 1 consists of 5 sections called 'Tashkhees,' while Part 2 contains 3 'Dastur.' Tashkhees 1 covers quotations and opinions from various physicians. Tashkhees 2 discusses the basic principles of simple drugs. Tashkhees 3 describes simple and compound drugs, including their characteristics, actions, and correctives. Tashkhees 4 focuses on toxic drugs. Tashkhees 5 details drug dosages. The Dastur sections cover: Dastur 1: Processing and detoxifying measures for simple drugs, such as burning, frying, and roasting. Dastur 2: The preparation of compound drugs, including formulations like Majun and pills. Dastur 3: Therapeutics in brief. The names of simple drugs are listed alphabetically, along with synonyms in other languages. The author, Mohammad Mumin, was the son of Mirza Mohammad Zaman Tankabani Dailami. His ancestors migrated from Tankabon to Isfahan, the capital of the Safavid dynasty, and served as royal physicians to the Safavid kings. Mohammad Mumin himself was the special physician to King Suleiman Safavi (1666–1694) and was highly skilled in both science and medicine. He wrote Tohfa al-Mu'minin for King Suleiman, drawing from Iranian, Greek, and Indian medical sources. The book was completed in 1080 AH (1670 AD).
