ABOUT THE BOOK : | Nadidarpana written by Dattarama, son of Srikrṣpalala," is a treatise in 217 verses, arranged in three chapters (avaloka). Although stressing the importance of aṣṭasthānaparīkṣā and referring to various elements of this procedure, the work is exclusively devoted to nadīparīkṣā. The author emphasizes that the examination of the pulse can be learnt by practice only, not from books. The cause of the pulsation of the arteries is said to be the contraction of the heart, the circulation of the blood is known to the author. Other subjects dealt with are: the three types of nādi (vāyuvahā, mutravidasthira savāhini, āhāravahini ) the total number of nadis (thirty-five millions), the gross nāidis (1,072 in number), and the twenty-four main nāḍis, the places where to feel the pulse, suitable and prohibited times for the examination of the pulse, suitable and unsuitable patients, the correct procedure for examining the pulse, the characteristics of a normal pulse, the deities presiding over the various pulses, the colours of the nādis, the characteristics of the pulse in disturbances of the dosas and the author's own opinion on this subject, the pulses indicating curability and incurability or approaching death, the articles of food to be prescribed in patients with an abnormal pulse; the pulse in various disorders, the number of pulsebeats. | ANY OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION : |
