ABOUT THE BOOK : | Ashtangahridaya is a famous well known Ayurvedic text. It is one among the Brihatrayi. Present book contains all the Sthana. Among them Sutra Stanam contains 30 chapters. It has description on various Basic principles. It covers social and preventive medicine including daily and seasonal regimens, causes of diseases like suppressing urges etc., various dietary groups like group of milk, liquors, oils, group of fruits etc and their effects. Classification and grouping of Dravya based on taste, Vipakaetc; vitiations of Dosha and their treatments, Dravya used in Vaman, Virechan etc purification treatments, detailed description on Panchakarma, various eye diseases, plasters and collyriums used in eye diseases, various Yantra, Shastra, various surgical procedures, various wound healing measures etc are described in this text. Sharirasthana of Ashtangahridaya contains 6 chapters. Embryology, care of pregnant, description on semen, Arthava (menstrual fluid), Pumsamana karma, Garbhapata, Garbhasrava, Mudagarbha etc, are described in first two chapters. Various anatomical and physiological descriptions like detailed description of external and internal body parts, descriptions on Skin, various Asthi, Kala, Snayu, Peshi, Sira, Dhamani, Ashya, Srotas, their seats and properties are described. Various vital parts and consequences of their injury, Various Prakriti, various bad omens indicating bad prognosis etc are described in remaining 4 chapters. Nidanasthan contains 16 chapters. General Panchalakshana Nidana, etiology, pathogenesis, types, prodromal symptoms, symptoms, prognosis etc. of various diseases like Jvara (fever), Raktapitta (bleeding disorders), Kasa (cough), Svasa (asthma), Arsa (piles), Atisara (diarrhoea) Vatarakta (gout) etc. are described . Chikitsa Sthana of Ashtangahridaya. Chikitsa Sthana contains 22 chapters. It starts with Jvarachikitsa adhyaya and ends Vatasonita chikitsadhyaya. Various herbal and herbomineral treatments of different types of diseases are explained in detail. Kalpa sthana contains 6 chapters. First chapter of Kalpa sthana is Vamanakalap, 2nd is Virechanakalpa, 3rd is Vamanvirechana vyapat chikitsa, 4th is Vastikalpa, 5th is Vasti vyapat chikitsa and 6th is Bheshakja kalpa. It has description on collection of drugs needed for Vaman (medicated vomiting), Virechana (medicated purgation) and Vasti (medicated enema). Various drugs/Kalpa are used as Vaman, Virechana and Vasti for different diseased conditions. Treatment and care in excess/ low effect of drugs and treatment for the adverse effects of Vaman, Virechana and Vasti procedures are also explained. Sixth chapter deals with collection of drugs, preparation methods of Panchavidhakashayakalpana etc. Uttara Stanam of Ashtangahridaya. It contains 40 chapters. It has description on various diseases of children and their treatment; psychological diseases like Unmada, Apasmara and their treatment; diseases of eye, ear, nose, face, teeth, head and their treatment; various types of wounds, fractures, diseases like filaria, tumors, abscess, fistula, oedema, swelling, kshudraroga, STD, various gynecological diseases and their treatment; Poisonous bytes of various animals and their treatment; Rasayan (rejuvenation) and Vajikarana (aphrodisiac) treatments and procedures. In this text description of each disease covers their etiology, types, symptoms, prognosis, line of treatment, treatment with many herbal and herbomineral preparation etc. |
