ABOUT MANUSCRIPT :Kitab ila Aghluqan is one of the 16 books of Jawāmi al-Iskandaranīyīn,originally written in Greek by Galen, it was translated into Arabic by Hunayn ibn Ishaq, `Isa ibn Yahya, and Iṣṭifan ibn Baṣīl. In the sixth century, medical scholars in Alexandria considered Galen's sixteen works the core texts for medical study. This manuscript is a summary of sixteen books by Galen, compiled around 600 CE at the medical school of Alexandria. Kitab ila Aghluqan is about the basic principles of medicine. Quotation of Hippocrates about temperament and nature is mentioned in detail. Treatment of some diseases and compound drugs are also mentioned. Ḥunayn ibn Isḥaq was the most productive translator of Greek medical and scientific treatises in his day. He studied Greek and became known as the 'Sheikh of the translators. He mastered four languages: Arabic, Syriac, Greek, and Persian. This Arabic translation, related to Galen's Commentary, by Hunayn ibn Ishaq, is a masterpiece of all the literary works of Galen. It is part of the Alexandrian compendium of Galen's work. This manuscript from the 10th century is in two volumes that include details regarding various types of fevers (Hummiyat) and different inflammatory conditions of the body. More importantly, it includes details of more than 150 single and compound formulations of both herbal and animal origin.
