| ABOUT MANUSCRIPT : | Mufradat Hindi by Hakim Mohammad Sharafuddin is one of the most notable works on single drugs, specifically focusing on herbal drugs found in India. It provides a comprehensive description of these drugs in Unani medicine, covering their characteristics, actions, and uses extensively. The book is structured into a Muqaddama (introduction) and several chapters. Maqala 1 introduces the names of the herbal drugs, while the Muqaddama discusses the differences among physicians regarding the identification and characteristics of various drugs. It also includes a detailed examination of different terminologies used in the processing of Unani drugs, offering valuable insights into both the terminology and practices of Unani medicine.Hakim Mohammad Sharafuddin was a resident of the Etah district in Uttar Pradesh. His father was Qazi Shamsuddin. He authored Mufradat Hindi in 1221 AH (1806 AD) for the education of his two sons. In his preface, he references sources such as Tohfa al-Mominin, Ikhtiat Badi, Riazul Adva and other books. However, he criticizes the author of Tohfa al-Mominin, noting that while it is a comprehensive work, it includes many drugs without sufficient research, making its statements less reliable unless corroborated by other trusted sources.
