ABOUT MANUSCRIPT :The book Risala Atshak focuses on the treatment of Atshak (syphilis) using several tried and tested remedies. In its final pages, various ointments beneficial for this disease are described, complete with their ingredients. The author, Imamuddin Shirazi, is a notable figure in the history of medicine, renowned for his expertise and skill. His name holds significant importance in the context of Indo-Iranian relations, as he provided medical services at the court of Shah Ismail Safavid. Imaduddin Shirazi authored numerous books, contributing greatly to the field. Before 1569, no known work had been written specifically on Atshak (syphilis). Imamuddin was the first to address this subject comprehensively, claiming that earlier scholars made no mention of this disease. Amir Bahadur Nurbakhshi, however, is acknowledged as the first to reference it in his book Khulasa al-Tajareb. In his treatise, Imamuddin documented the transmission of syphilis, notably pointing out its spread through the use of public baths, which also indicates his association with the shrine and Mashhad. A Persian manuscript of Risala Atashak by Seyyed Mahmud Gesudaraz is also available in Hyderabad, providing further insights into this disease.
