ABOUT MANUSCRIPT :Risala fil-Niqris has been divided into 23 chapters. This Treatise on stands as an important scientific legacy. The focused research carried out by Arab physicians on specific diseases is exemplified in this work, which offers a comprehensive explanation of gout. It details the causes, symptoms, and treatments, including dietary guidelines, bathing practices, physical exercises, and other primary remedies. The treatise also addresses key topics such as the differentiation between gout and joint pain (waja' al-mafasil) and the factors contributing to the occurrence of gout. Hakim Syed Zillur Rahman has edited this work using two manuscripts, one from his personal collection. His edition includes a corrected text, a translation, and a detailed section on textual variants. Rahman’s scholarly contribution brings clarity to the distinction between gout and arthritis, as it was understood over a millennium ago. The treatise also explores the Greek perspective on the disease, incorporating insi ghts from various Greek authors. It highlights the role of humors and materials in the causation of gout, offering a cross-cultural understanding of the condition.
