ABOUT MANUSCRIPT :Shifa al-Mareez, also known as Tibb Shahabi, is a significant manuscript in Unani medicine, renowned for its collection of tested and tried prescriptions for treating various diseases. Composed in 1388 AD, the manuscript is written entirely in Persian verse, making it a unique metrical compendium on therapeutics. Its poetic form contributed to its immense popularity and recognition for both its theoretical insights and practical applications in Unani medicine. This work holds an esteemed place in medical literature, offering authentic and comprehensive details on the fundamentals and therapeutics of Unani medicine. The author frequently references ancient physicians, demonstrating a deep connection with traditional medical knowledge. Notably, the author emphasizes that all the drugs recommended in the text were thoroughly tested and proven in clinical practice before being included. Most of the prescriptions are based on only two or three single drugs, showcasing the simplicity and effectiveness of the treatments. The manuscript consists of 164 chapters (Babs), each covering a different aspect of therapeutics. Noteworthy chapters include Chapters 83, 85, and 86, which focus on contraceptive and abortifacient drugs under the theme of family planning. Chapter 162 is particularly unique, as it discusses the maintenance of arms and ammunition of the time, as well as treatments for horses, reflecting the manuscript's broader applications beyond human medicine. Chapter 169 deals with chemistry, in which the author discourages unnecessary testing, emphasizing a practical approach to the subject.
